Jerusalem, May 09: Palestinian militants fired five Qassam rockets from the Gaza Strip towards the southern Israeli town of Sderot, lightly injuring one woman, Israeli military sources said today.
Two of the rudimentary rockets, fired late yesterday, landed in the town while the remaining three hit fields in the Gaza Strip, the sources said.

The rocket fire came hours after the killing of Ayad el-Beik yesterday, a member of the armed wing of the radical Islamic movement Hamas, in an Israeli Army helicopter strike in Gaza city. The radical Islamist movement Hamas occasionally fires Qassam rockets, named after its armed wing, the Ezzedin Al-Qassam brigades, from the northern Gaza Strip at this small town of 24,000 residents.

They have an estimated range of up to 12 kilometers but are largely inaccurate and have caused no fatalities. The Palestinian authority has roundly condemned the rocket attacks, pointing out they often result in deadly Israeli retaliations.
