Etawah, June 16: Disagreeing with those calling
Congress president Sonia Gandhi a foreigner, Samajwadi Party
chief Mulayam Singh Yadav says she is a true Indian who has
imbibed the spirit of the country's culture in totality.
It is wrong to call Gandhi a foreigner now as she has
learnt the ethos of Indian culture, Yadav told here
yesterday.
He said by raking up Gandhi's foreign nationality issue, the BJP had shown that it was bereft of ideas. It was likely that the saffron party might contest the next Lok Sabha elections on "Indian vs foreigner" issue, the SP supremo said.
Attacking the BJP, he said the party was yet to decide as to who would lead it in the next elections -- Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee or Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani.
Flaying the Vajpayee government's foreign policy, Yadav alleged that Advani gave a statement in Washington under US pressure that India would send its troops to Iraq. He said the Prime Minister's efforts to arrive at a consensus on Iraq were all "drama".
"When Advani has already announced that Indian forces will go to Iraq, why the NDA government wants that all political parties sign on dotted lines," Yadav said. Bureau Report
