Jammu, July 11: The third batch of 3990 pilgrims today left for cave shrine of Amarnath in Kashmir Valley despite inclement weather. A fleet of 222 vehicles, escorted by police and CRPF, carried pilgrims from Mam Stadium here this morning, officials said, adding that 2969 men, 525 women, 57 children and 439 sadhus left in today's batch.

As many as 10,936 pilgrims have so far left from Jammu to pay their obeisance to ice-lingam of Lord Shiva at the cave shrine of Amarnath in south Kashmir Himalayas. Some of the pilgrims, who had reached the base camp at Nunwan in Pahalgam during last two days, were on their way trekking to cave shrine, officials said.

Several hundred pilgrims have already performed prayers at the shrine after taking Sonamarg-Baltal route, they said. Meanwhile, a number of NGO's and voluntary organisations have devotedly organised langars for pilgrims at Jammu and enroute from Jammu to Pahalgam.

Besides, the authorities have set up temporary dispensaries all along national highway from Lakhanpur to Banihal and onwards to the cave for the devotees.

Two pilgrims, on their way to the cave shrine, had died of heart attack yesterday. Bureau Report
