Rs 310 crore approved to modernise engineering institutions

An approval to this effect came from national selection
committee of the technical quality improvement programme
(TEQIP), under chairmanship of Education Secretary S K
Tripathi.
The institutes would utilise funds in modernising labs, upgrading equipment, books, staff development, community services and industry-institute relationship, besides repairs and renovation of the buildings, an official release said.
This is first cycle and more funds would be sanctioned in second cycle after the amount is utilised, it said, adding the total project cost of TEQIP, which is to be implemented during the current five year plan, is Rs 1,550 crore.
TEQIP is being implemented in six states for improvement of quality of technical education and enhancing existing capacities of well-performing engineering institutions. First cycle of TEQIP is being implemented in Haryana, Kerala, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra.
The national selection committee has also selected seven more states; Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Uttranchal and West Bengal to participate in the second cycle.
