Jakarta, Dec 05: Indonesian police said Wednesday they had arrested the alleged new operations chief of Jemaah Islamiyah, the Southeast Asian terror group blamed for October's Bali bombing. "Last night ... we managed to arrest several people, including the person wanted by the Indonesian, Malaysian and Singapore police, that is Mukhlas or Ali Ghufron," national police detective chief Erwin Mappaseng said.

He and eight others were arrested in the Central Java town of Klaten, Mappaseng said, adding Mukhlas is suspected of involvement in "bombing cases" but he did not say whether he was also believed to have a role in the Bali bombing. Bureau Report
