Srinagar, Aug 10: Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police A K Suri today denied allegations by some opposition parties that their leaders were not being provided security, saying that leaders of all political parties have been provided adequate security as per threat perception. The candidates for the coming assembly elections, fielded by political parties as well as independents, will be provided adequate security cover right from the time of announcement of their candidatures, he said in a statement here. Suri, who called on Madhya Pradesh chief minister Digvijay Singh and AICC general secretary Ambika Soni here, said that 56 Congress leaders have been provided security.

Leaders of recognised political parties have been provided security in accordance with the instructions of the Election Commission. Political activists of different parties engaged in organizational activities and depending upon heir threat perception have been provided adequate security, Suri said. In the meantime, he said, political parties have been requested to furnish the lists of candidates who are likely to contest the elections.
Giving further details of the security cover to political activists in the militancy-hit state, the police chief said that 44 leaders of BJP, 17 each of CPI(M) and Awami League, Awami Conference, 26 of PDP, 14 of BSP, eight of JD, five of CPI, four each of panthers party, Shiv Sena and Awami National Conference, two each of LJSP and RJD and one leader of samata Party have been provided security.
