Bhubaneswar, Oct 19: The VHP today accused Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee of not applying enough pressure on Mulayam Singh Yadav government in Uttar Pradesh to ensure that Hindus could have darshan of the idol of Lord Rama at the disputed site in Ayodhya during the saffron outfit's October 17 rally there. VHP general secretary Praveen Togadia told reporters here that in fact, the Centre and the state government joined hands to launch a "repression" on thousands of Ram bhakts who wanted to attend the 'Sankalp sabha' planned at Ayodhya on October 17.

Togadia said while the up government tried to scuttle the 'Sankalp sabha' the Centre could not be absolved of its role in the matter. "The Prime Minister did not apply the pressure on the UP government to ensure that the devotees had darshan of Ram Lala (idol of Lord Rama at the disputed site in Aydohya), he said.

The Central government had despatched 147 companies of the CRPF to stop the Ram bhakts from exercising their religious, constitutional and democratic rights, he added.

"But despite all the repressive measures, our programme has been a success and no one could stop it " he claimed.
