New Delhi, May 10: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandra Babu Naidu today said "peoplism and not populism" had helped his state make definitive progress in many areas though there was still a long way to go. Speaking at the India Today Chief Ministers conclave here, he said development was a team effort and not a solo performance and that he had been fortunate to lead a team of able ministers and diligent civil servants who have helped the state become a front-runner in many respects. "We have worked out a series of performance indicators for objectively assessing government performance. The performance indicators help benchmark performance and therefore contribute towards motivating achievement at all levels," he said. Admitting that more needs to be done to make the correct assessment of performance, Naidu said "more needs to be done.We are further refining and fine-tuning this process." The chief minister was of the firm belief that India was a rich country made poor by wrong policies and lack of vision.
"Indians are second to none in calibre and belief. However we need to create an environment for excellence. Each of us should aim to achieve excellence in whatever we do," he said. Bureau Report
