Shimla, May 30: Padmesh Kaur, a relative of Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh, was shot dead at a rest house here this morning by an employee of her brother who had accompanied her from Delhi. Superintendent of police Yog Raj Thakur said the assailant, identified as Dhiren Walia, has been arrested. Giving details, he said Walia, under the influence of liquor, made some remarks about Kaur's family and when she protested, he shot her in the head resulting in her death.
The two had come here along with a couple Jaidev and Nisha on May 23 and after staying at a forest rest house in Tutu near here for a day, the two checked in the cedar rest house on May 24. The incident took place in the presence of the couple who informed the guard, who in turn reported the matter to police.
Police swung into action immediately and all escape routes were sealed. The accused was arrested at Kandaghat, about 32 km from here and the pistol used by him in the murder recovered from his possession. He was carrying 16 extra cartridges also, they said. Bureau Report
