Frankfurt, Germany, Dec 06: The abandoned British Championship was almost revived when England, northern Ireland and Wales were drawn together in the qualifiers for the 2006 World Cup finals. The historic and much-lamented British series, which also included Scotland, was played annually from 1884 until 1984 and threw up many famous British soccer classics. It has been badly missed by the Irish and Welsh. ''I've been waiting a long time to get the British championship resurrected, a very long time,'' said the president of the northern Ireland Football Association (FA) Jim Boyce, after the draw threw the teams together in group six. Scotland were drawn in group five with Italy and Norway. Bureau Report
