Former Hizb commander arrested
Srinagar, July 31: Former Hizbul Mujahideen commander Zaffar Akbar, who had announced last week his decision to give-up gun, was today arrested during a raid on the outskirts of Srinagar, police sources said.
Srinagar, July 31: Former Hizbul Mujahideen commander Zaffar Akbar, who had announced last week his decision to give-up gun, was today arrested during a raid on the outskirts of Srinagar, police sources said.
Akbar, popularly known as Zaffar Abdul Fateh and one of the close associates of slain former Hizbul chief commander Abdul Majid Dar, was arrested from Bagh-e-Mehtab locality and was taken to an unknown destination, they said.
Akbar was leading the Dar group after the assassination of the pro-dialogue leader in Sopore area of Baramulla district in March last. The sources said he was arrested as a number of cases were pending against him.
Addressing a press conference on July 23, Akbar had announced his decision to give up gun and join politics for a peaceful resolution of Kashmir issue. A day after the press conference, Hizbul spokesman Junaid-ul-Islam disowned Akbar. Bureau Report
