Washington, Sept 30: The Securities and Exchange Commission said today it sought a court order for former Enron chairman Kenneth lay to produce documents for a probe of the failed energy giant. Lay has "refused to produce documents" the SEC has subpoenaed, the US regulator said.
The SEC said it believes Lay is withholding corporate records and that it is investigating "whether Lay had knowledge of, or was involved in, fraudulent activities at Enron."
Lay has not been charged with any wrongdoing by the SEC or the Justice Department related to Enron's high-profile collapse in December 2001.
