Chennai, July 25: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa today virtually rolled out the red carpet for captains of Indian industry to use the state as an ideal platform for building globally competitive Indian multinational companies.
"I would like to openly challenge you to build Indian MNCs which can stand up and be counted in the global arena," she said at the national council meeting of the Confederation
of Indian Industry here today.
In her special address, Jayalalithaa extended a "personal invitation" to 10 business houses assembled in the CII national council to select Tamil Nadu as the right place for launching their global plans.
She said she had initiated special economic zone projects at Chennai, Ennore, Thoothukudi and Hosur with this idea in mind, adding her government would set out a new framework for mobility of labour and their employment terms in the SEZs so that the leading Indian industrial houses could build world class Indian companies in these zones. The Chief Minister mentioned specific areas like automobile components, textiles and garments and leather goods for such globally competitive ventures.
Announcing an ambitious economic growth target of 10 per cent for the state from this year, she said, "We shall finalise the Tamil Nadu 2003 brand strategy in August and go at it with vigour."
