More than 25,000 people have migrated from various border villages along International Border and Line of Control in Kathua, Jammu and Rajouri districts due to heavy exchange of fire and shelling in last two days, official sources said in Jammu. About 3,000 families comprising 15,000 people have migrated from various villages close to IB in Kathua district since Friday, they said, adding that several people have taken shelter in government schools at Chadwal, Madeen, Chakri, Sherpur, Raipur, Marwal and Mawa villages.
Some of the families have also gone to their relations in the district or other places in Jammu division, they said.
Nine thousand people have migrated from several border villages in Samba area of Jammu and taken shelter in Sidco Complex and Dak Bungalow in Samba, they said.
In Kathua district, 2000 migrations were reported on Friday, they said.
Nearly 200 people left Nanga village in Ramgarh tehsil and 100 others migrated from hamlets in R S Pura area since Thursday, the sources said.
Besides, several families also migrated from border villages of Rajouri district and took shelter in adjoining villages, they said.
The authorities have asked the district administration of Kathua and Jammu to provide necessary facilities, including rations, to the border migrants, they added.
