Chandigarh, Oct 06: Rajya Sabha MP Sukhbir Singh Badal today again failed to turn up before the Punjab Vigilance Bureau for questioning in a corruption case against the Badal family even as the investigative agency served the Akali leader the third and final notice for October 9.
Rejecting Sukhbir Singh Badal's plea that he may be questioned at his residence in Delhi, Punjab VB director A P Pandey said, "It is rubbish. He has no right to plead that he may be questioned at his place of choice. This right is with the witness and in this case Sukhbir is an accused."
He said Sukhbir's plea that he had not received the earlier two notices was baseless. "The second notice to Sukhbir on October 3 was sent by the agency by a special messenger to Delhi. After the persons at the residence of Sukhbir in Delhi refused to accept the notice, the VB official pasted the same outside his residence," Pandey said.
"The VB wants to give an opportunity to Sukhbir to present his side as there are allegations of corruption against him," Pandey said. Sukhbir's father and former Chief Minister Prakash Singh Badal would be questioned in the case on October 8 at Badal's official residence here.
Pandey said the VB had also sent notices to Badal's wife Surinder Kaur and their son-in-law Adesh Pratap Singh Kairon. Bureau Report
