Leh, July 27: Blaming the close proximity with Pakistan for militancy in Jammu and Kashmir, Governor Lt Gen (Retd) S K Sinha has said the menace of terrorism could only be rooted out when people give whole-hearted support to the administration.
Stating that the problem of militancy in Kashmir was more "voluminous" than in Assam, Sinha said, "The problem of terrorism is more acute here because of its close proximity with Pakistan."
The Governor, who was addressing a joint meeting of the Hill Development Council of Ladakh, political leaders and heads of various religious organisations here, said people had the most important role in eliminating militancy in the state. He emphasised that the people lend help to the administration to defeat the "evil designs" of the terrorists.
Sinha expressed satisfaction over the developmental activities being carried out under the aegis of Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council and hoped its counterpart in Kargil, which is in the making, would follow suit. Bureau Report
