Chennai, July 11: Gujarat tops Indian states with the highest ratio of development spending (71%) while Tamil Nadu scores among select band of states in terms of additional mobilisation of its own tax resources. In a study on State finances: constrains and potential, Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry said as per the data for 2001-02, Gujarat also had the highest level of spending in both social (38%) and economic services (33%).
The other leading states with a high share of development spending include Chattisgarh (64%), Jharkand (63%), Madhya Pradesh (63%), Karnataka (61%) and Andhra Pradesh (61%). It came to 55% in Tamil Nadu, 40% in Maharashtra, 48% in West Bengal and 52% in Kerala. Bureau Report
