Kochi, June 11: The Public sector Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL), has signed a contract for construction of nine tugs for the Jeddah Port in Saudi Arabia, giving a boost to its drive to go global and secure orders from foreign owners.
CSL won the contract against very stiff international competition from yards including Singapore, China and other countries, a CSL release claimed here on Tuesday. Attractive price and delivery schedule quoted by CSL, was the decisive factor in clinching the deal, it said.
The contract was for construction of three 1500 KW, five 2400 KW and one 3300 KW Fire Fighting tugs which are highly manoeuvrable for various harbour operations. In addition to fire fighting, these crafts were also equipped to combat pollution control including oil spills in harbour and other exigencies. All tugs are fitted with 15T crane, Wartsila Main Engines and Rolls Royce Aqua Master Steerable Rudder Propulsion systems, it said adding the complete design of the vessels were being done in-house.
These fully air-conditioned ships could accommodate upto nine persons on board and confirm to the most stringent conditions of operation in Middle-East, it said. Bureau Report
