Patiala, Oct 30: Noted Punjabi singer Daler Mehndi failed to appear before the police here for the second day today even as a local court issued fresh non-bailable warrants for the arrest of five persons in the alleged illegal human trafficking case. Mehndi, who did not turn up before the Patiala Police yesterday, failed to keep his date today also.
The singer was unwell and hence could not present himself before the Patiala Police, his counsel told reporters over phone from Delhi.
Mehndi has been asked to appear before Dig I P S Sahota who is enquiring into his allegation that the Patiala Police demanded Rs 1.50 crore to keep his name out of the case.
Sahota was not available despite repeated attempts, but police sources said they were taking legal opinion on taking further action against Daler who had got interim anticipatory bail from Delhi High Court till November one.
Meanwhile, Senior Sub-Judge P S Dhanoa, who had on October 15 issued non-bailable warrants against Mehndi and five others, issued fresh NBWs against five persons except the singer on an application of Patiala Police which informed the court that except for the singer, the others had failed to join the investigations.
The NBWs against Daljit Kaur (wife of Daler), Balwinder Kaur (wife of Shamsher Singh, who is in judicial custody), Surender Singh, Tejinder Singh alias Laddi and Harchand Singh alias Dhyan Singh are returnable by November 17.
The case was registered on October six on a complaint of one Bakshish Singh that he was not sent abroad even though he had paid Rs 13 lakh out of demanded Rs 15 lakh.
