Aizawl, Jan 27: Mizoram chief minister Zoramthanga today said that he would press the Centre to institute a boundary commission to settle inter-state boundary disputes in the north east region. Addressing a press conference here, Zoramthanga said that all the states in the north east which were once parts of erstwhile Assam state were having boundary disputes with Assam or other neighbouring states.
"I would soon suggest to the Centre to form a boundary commission for the region to solve various boundary problems between the states," he said.
Demarcation of boundaries in the name of administrative conveniences by the British colonial rulers created perpetual heartburn amongst different tribes of the region.
On the issue of amalgamation of ethnic Mizo inhabited areas of Manipur with Mizoram, Zoramthanga said that it would depend upon the wishes of the ethnic Mizos living in that state.
"We do not want to impose upon our brothers and sisters there to join us," he said. Bureau Report
