New Delhi, Oct 30: Former Mizoram Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla has been fielded from two constituencies, Serchhip and Champhai, by Congress in the next month's assembly elections. Former MP Heiphei(Aizawal-South-I), Prof Ilangi Awma, a professor of economics in the local university (Aizawal-South-II) and a former IPS officer Lal Remsiana (Aizawal East-I) also figure in the list of 39 candidates released by the AICC tonight.
Congress leader Salman Khursheed, who is in charge of party affairs in the north-eastern state with 40 assembly seats, said the remaining one candidate would be announced by tomorrow.
He said Lal Thanhawla has been fielded from two constituencies due to popular demand and in view of special circumstances in the state. While Serchhip was the constituency being represented by the former chief minister at present, he was earlier elected from Champhai.
Congress has six seats in the outgoing assembly where most of the seats are reserved for scheduled tribes.
