This talented, sassy female trio from Atlanta, Georgia, USA, comprises of Lisa `Left Eye` Lopes, Rozanda `Chilli` Thomas and T-Boz (b. Tionne Watkins). With the help of their manager Pebbles, their debut funky score, `Ain`t 2 Proud 2 Beg` was a chart topper entering the US charts at #5, `Baby-Baby-Baby` at #2 and `What About Your Friends` at #7. They also did a major ad campaign for contraceptives to promote safe sex, before moving on to work with celebrated Dance/Soul producers Dallas Austin and Babyface. Their debut album had tracks in a `new jill swing` mode addressed to the joys of womanhood, with staunch advice on how to treat errant boyfriends. Lopes was jailed for burning down the mansion of Andre Rison, her Atlanta Falcons` football star boyfriend and also trashing his cars in a drunken rage. She was later sent to an alcohol rehabilitation centre which became America`s top news stories in the process. Luckily for TLC, her sentence was commuted to probation and thus helped them rather than hindering their career. The group`s second album, `CrazySexyCool` was a major hit with beats provided by Jermaine Dupri and Sean `Puffy` Combs in addition to Austin. The album sold over 4 million copies and featured the US #1, `Creep` and `If I Was Your Girlfriend`. `CrazySexyCool` was a quadruple platinum in America, but unfortunately the group was forced to file for bankruptcy in 1995 with $3.5 million as liabilities. The group owed $1.3 million to the Lloyd`s Of London Insurance related to an unpaid insurance claim on Rison`s house which was destroyed by Lopes. Further complications arose over the group`s management when their record label, LaFace Records owned by L.A. Reid and their production company, Pebbitone owned by the Reid`s wife Pebbles had a financial dispute. Pebbles claimed that each member of TLC owed her company $566,434. Further, Pebbles also accused LaFace and parent company Arista Records of attempting to entice TLC away from Pebbitone, and undermining the trio`s obligation to return $500,000 in advances and their obligation to record at least six albums for her company. The band were able to put all this behind them when they won two Grammies at the 1996 Grammy awards. They won the Best R&B Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal for `Creep` and the Best R&B album for `CrazySexyCool`. At the same time, `CrazySexyCool` passed the 10 million copies` mark in USA alone and their debut passed the 4 million units in June 1996.

After a long delay, `Fanmail` was released in March 1999, which was an American chart-topper and the outstanding single, `No Scrubs` shot up in the US Hot 100 and reaching at #3 in the UK Top 10. Following this, `Unpretty` also followed it to the top of the US charts in September.
