Kharar, Mar 14: A court today remanded Gurmail Singh, believed to be a close aide of former Punjab Subordinate Services Selection Board (PSSSB) chairman Jasdev Singh Sandhu, to police custody till Saturday. Singh’s arrest was in connection with a corruption and bungling in recruitment process case registered against him along with the secretary and six members of the board on July 12 last year. Gurmail Singh was arrested on the basis of a statement recorded with the Punjab vigilance bureau by a Ludhiana resident Ajit Singh on Thursday. Kharar sub-divisional judicial magistrate (SDJM) Preeti Sahni directed the VB sleuths to produce the accused once again before the same court in Kharar on Saturday. While the former PSSSB chairman had joined investigation after remaining underground for nearly seven months in February, five former PSSSB members Kulbir Singh Randhawa, Ashok Kumar Loomba, Jarnail Singh Wahid, Munawar Masih and Virsa Singh Valtoha had been arrested and were presently out on bail.

However, another former PSSSB member Parkash Singh Gardhiwal and former PSSSB secretary Zora Singh (PCS), were granted pre-arrest bail.
