New Delhi, Sept 26: All India Anti-Terrorist Front (AIATF) today demanded that the commandos killed in the operation at Gandhinagar temple be treated at par with Kargil martyrs and their families compensated accordingly.
"It goes to the credit of the commandos that unlike Operation Bluestar, the terrorists were killed without causing any damage to the shrine. The Central and state governments should compensate their families at par with the kin of Kargil martyrs," front chairman M S Bitta said. He demanded that the kin of the slain commandos be given Rs 10 lakh, petrol pumps and other facilities.
The former youth Congress chief also announced that his front would be paying Rs one lakh each to the families of the slain commandos at a function in the Capital.
Three commandos--one of NSG and the other two of Gujarat police--lost their lives in the operation.
Bitta said that Pakistan was now targeting Gujarat after its "failure" in Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir. He also held VHP chief Ashok Singhal "equally responsible" for unending communal violence in the state.
Earlier, scores of front volunteers along with devotees of the Baps Swaminarain Sanstha, whose temple was attacked, observed two minutes' silence, sang devotional songs and chanted 'mantras' before the statue of Shaheed Bhagat Singh to pay homage to the victims of the attack. They also took a pledge to maintain the nation's unity and integrity at all costs.
