New Delhi, July 22: Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) has decided to implement the concessional international call rates announced by various international long distance operators including Videsh Sanchar Nigam Ltd (VSNL), from midnight today. "BSNL has decided to implement the concessional ISD rates (40 per cent less) tariffs with effect from midnight of July 22," a corporation statement said here.

It said the tariffs would be applicable to all BSNL subscribers and cellular subscribers making calls through BSNL network.

The move would bring the benefit of International Long Distance (ILD) rate cut of upto 40 per cent announced by VSNL last week to match rival Bharti, to about 33.5 million customers of BSNL. Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd (MTNL), the basic services operator in Delhi and Mumbai had immediately extended the benefit of new rates to its customers in Delhi and Mumbai from midnight of July 19, while BSNL on the same day had said it would implement the new rates after some technical upgradation in exchanges.

Last week, VSNL, which is now part of Tata group, has announced a 40 per cent cut in ILD rates to the US while those for countries in Europe, Africa and the Gulf have been reduced by around 25 per cent, similar to that of Bharti group.

Bharti's Indiaone will offer peak tariff of Rs 24 per minute for calls made to US, Europe and Oceania countries while the offpeak tariff for the same region would be Rs 21.18 per minute.
