Kolkata, Aug 10: The BJP today said that it would snap ties with the Trinamool Congress in the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) board if mayor Subrata Mukherjee refused to withdraw his reported remarks against the prime minister and the deputy prime minister by August 13, a demand that was turned down by the civic body official.
"Since the mayor has so far refused to take back his unsavoury comments against the Prime Minister and the Deputy Prime Minister, we have no other option but to take a harsh decision whether to continue with the Trinamool-controlled KMC board," West Bengal BJP chief Asim Ghosh said. Ghosh said that the BJP would pull out of the KMC board unless Mukherjee apologised by August 13.
Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee too has set a deadline of August 13 for walking out of the NDA if the Centre failed to reconsider its decision on the Eastern Railway bifurcation.

Ghosh said that the party would intimate the BJP Central leadership about the developments taking place over the bifurcation issue in the state, particularly Mukherjee's campaign against the NDA and the BJP.
The mayor, however, ruled out an apology. "I'm not going to withdraw my comments."
