Orai, UP, Mar 03: Talks for the resumption of India-Pakistan cricket matches in the wake of the sensational victory of the Indian cricket team over the arch-rivals was laid to rest today with the central government citing security reasons. Talking to media persons here, Union Minister of State for Sports, Vikram Singh said most of the decisions related to cricket came under the purview of the board of control for cricket in India, but certain decisions were the prerogative of the government. The government was not concerned with the selection process of the team, but it could always interfere for security considerations, Singh clarified.
On the resumption of India-Pakistan cricket matches, he felt playing cricket with Pakistan held no meaning even as that country was encouraging cross-border terrorism in India. The minister congratulated the Indian team for their spectacular win over Pakistan and said it had boosted the morale of the team which would help them perform even better.
He was here to attend a function at the Nehru Youth Centre.
