Chandigarh, July 04: Terming the situation in Punjab as "alarming" with the government "targetting political opponents" in the garb of eradicating corruption, BJP today warned that President's rule could be imposed in the state in the near future.
"There prevails an environment of terror and anarchy all over the state and the administration is totally paralysed," Punjab BJP chief Brij Lal Rinwa told reporters here.
"If prevalent circumstances worsen, than there is the probability of imposing President's rule in Punjab," he said. "The state government is registering false and baseless cases against Badal and his family members. The entire move is being carried out with the solo motive of defaming Badal," Rinwa alleged.
He said the BJP along with it's ally Shiromani Akali Dal would soon hold a joint rally to protest the government's "repressive and undemocratic" steps and added that people of the state would come out on the streets to express their resentment if Badal or any of his family members was arrested. Stating that the BJP was against any type of corruption, Rinwa said the Amarinder Singh government should set up a commission to probe allegations of corruption against any political leader.
Rinwa, who led a party delegation to meet Governor O P Verma to apprise him about the present situation in the state, said they had presented a memorandum appealing to him to direct the chief minister to preserve democratic values.
The memorandum also demanded that all false and baseless cases registered against SAD leaders be withdrawn immediately, Rinwa said. Bureau Report
