Chennai, June 24: Congress today said it favoured a court settlement to the vexed Ayodhya issue.
AICC general secretary Kamal Nath told reporters at the
airport here that even if an amicable solution was found
outside the court, it should have the sanction of the court.
He charged the BJP and the VHP with 'politicising' the Ayodhya issue, adding that VHP was 'not interested' in an amicable solution to the dispute as it pursued 'divisive policies'.
He refused to comment on the recent peace package by the seer of Kanchi Kamamoti Peetam, Sri Jayendra Saraswathy.
Asked whether the Congress would have tie up with DMK for the next Lok Sabha polls, he said the congress had maintained that it would present itself to the people of Tamil Nadu as an alternative to the AIADMK and the DMK. 'our position remains the same and has not changed', he said while evading a direct reply to the question.
On the TNCC leadership issue, Kamal Nath said he was 'misquoted and misreported' on the issue and the high command had clarified that there would not be any change in the TNCC leadership.
Reports had said that Kamal Nath, during an interaction with the press at New Delhi, hinted that there would be a change in the TNCC leadership, which was protested by TNCC president S Balakrishnan. However, high command summoned him to convey its decision that he would continue to lead the party in the state.
