Raipur, Nov 04: A day after BSP announced its decision not to field candidate against Chief Minister Ajit Jogi, the Congress leader's arch rival and NCP state unit president Vidya Charan Shukla today hinted at a post-poll alliance between BJP and NCP. "There is no current understanding with the BJP for the assembly poll but how one can predict the future," Shukla told reporters here releasing the first list of NCP candidates.

The former Union Minister said that he was in favour of a joint candidate against Jogi. He will not contest December 1 assembly poll and campaign for the party, Shukla added.

Shukla however said he could contest any by-election indicating that he was in race for chief ministership. When asked if NCP would support BJP candidate and leader of opposition Nand Kumar Sai from Marwahi, he said it has not yet been finalised whether Sai will contest from Tapkara or Marwahi and "let's see from where Jogi is seeking mandate".

On BJP's decision of not putting up candidate against him for the Dec 1 poll, Shukla said that NCP will reciprocate the move but did not elaborate against whom NCP will not field candidate.

He also denied that communalism will be an issue either in assembly polls in December or general elections next year.
Coming down heavily on Jogi, he said under his reign there can not be free and fair poll. A delegation would meet Chief Election Commissioner J M Lyngdoh today and urge him not to make Bastar and Jashpur collectors district Returning Officers as under them there can not be free and fair poll, he said.
