Amid noisy scenes, proceedings in the Andhra Pradesh Assembly were stalled for an hour on Saturday as the BJP and the Majlis members sought a discussion on their adjournment motions regarding violence and stabbing incidents in the old city of Hyderabad on Friday. As the house assembled for the day, members of the two parties were on their feet, seeking to raise the issue and vociferously demanding a discussion on the adjournment motions. The old city had witnessed sporadic violence on Friday night after two students appearing for their SSLC examination were stabbed during the day by miscreants. Home minister T Devender Goud's remark that the two parties gave an impression that they were talking on behalf of Hindu and Muslim communities drew loud protests from the BJP and Majlis members. On several occasions, the Majlis members rushed to the speaker's podium, objecting to the minister's remarks. The minister repeatedly urged the members not to rake up the issue on the floor of the house, but endeavour to create a peaceful atmosphere in the city. When leader of the opposition Y S Rajasekhara Reddy said that the minister's remarks could have hurt the sentiments of the members of the two parties, Goud said that he never intended to hurt any member's sentiments.
Speaker K Prathibha Bharathi announced that the adjournment motions were disallowed. She said that she would convene a meeting of all floor leaders in her chambers to find out whether a discussion on the issue could be taken up.
