Chandigarh, June 13: The Punjab State Human Right Commission (PSHRC) today issued notice to Punjab government on a petition seeking reply on the status of government action in blast and fire in a factory of pharmaceutical major Ranbaxy in Mohali near here.
A division bench of PSHRC comprising Justice (Retd) N C Jain and Justice (Retd) R L Anand issued notice for June 23 to the principal home secretary and the chief secretary of Punjab government on a PIL filled by lawyers for Human Rights International, an NGO.
The petitioners alleged this tantamount to criminal negligence on the part of Ranbaxy authority and administration should properly probe Thursday night's incident. The petitioners also alleged Chief Minister Amarinder Singh had already given a clean chit to Ranbaxy authority in connection with the incident and the magisterial probe ordered by the state government could not be fair after the chief minister's action.
Lawyers for Human Rights International president Amar Singh Chahal told reporters that they would launch a campaign with the help of Mohali residents to not to allow the factory to go with its operation again since it is a threat to the whole city. Meanwhile, the condition of four seriously injured in the fire remained unchanged. Bureau Report
