Jaipur, Oct 20: The Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Election Committee (RPCEC) has urged the party high command to finalise the candidates for the assembly elections slated for December 01. The second meeting of RPCEC, which met yesterday, authorised Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, PCC president Girija Vyas, and other senior leaders to recommend the panels submitted by the district party units to the central screening committee, spokesman Raghu Sarma said.
About 3,500 candidates have applied for the party ticket, he said.
The screening committee headed by senior party leader Manmohan Singh would meet in delhi after The diwali vacation to decide on the matter, he said.
The winning candidate with the best public image would be the main criteria of selection, besides priority would be given to women, youth, minorities and backward class, he said.
The RPEC also hailed the five years' rule of the Gehlot government, specially the famine works management. Bureau Report
