Kolkata, Aug 07: British National Peter Bleach, serving a life sentence in the Purulia armsdrop case, today expressed disappointment at the President's rejection of his remission petition.
"I am disappointed at the turn of events, but the disappointment is not overwhelming as I did not have much expectation either," Bleach told newsmen while being produced before a city court in relation to an assault case.
This was the second time that the President had rejected Bleach's remission petition. His earlier remission petition was rejected on August 09, 2001.
Kolkata-based legal activist Deepak Prahladka had filed a remission petition before the President. In reply to which a letter written by home ministry said "President of India once again, after carefully considering your petition on his behalf, has rejected the same on merits under Article 72 of the Constitution of India".
