Kathmandu, July 09: The US government has agreed to provide financial assistance of 7.5 million US dollars to support Nepal's efforts to strengthen the rule of law, enhancing access to justice, advanced accountability and anti-corruption initiatives. The agreement was signed between Nepal and the US government during the recent visit of ambassador Wendy Chamberlin, USAID's assistant administrator for Asia and the Near East, according to an American Centre press release.
“Nepal is one of our most important USAID programme, and this is why I made Nepal one of my first visits to the region,” Chamberlin was quoted as saying in the release. Chamberlin said it is "extremely important to end the potential gridlock" in Kathmandu so that the process of democracy, decentralization and involvement of all people can vitalize the Nepalese economy and society.
She also stressed the US governments' support for Nepal's peace process. "The Maoist conflict cannot be resolved by military force, but by a peace process in which all participants support an end to violence and terrorism and are committed to establishing a fair and just political system based upon principles of human rights, inclusion and democracy," she said.
