Islamabad, May 24: A senior US diplomat met with Pakistani defense officials to discuss ways to enhance cooperation between the two countries in defense and other fields, officials said today. Lincoln P Bloomfield, Assistant Secretary of State for Political-Military Affairs, met with Pakistani defense secretary Hamid Nawaz and other senior military and air force officials.

The two sides discussed ``matters of mutual interest,'' according to a statement released by Pakistan's military. It did not give any details. Earlier this week, US Assistant Secretary of State for Arms Control Stephen G Rademaker held meetings with Pakistani officials in the capital.

Pakistan is a key ally of the United States in the war on terror. Pakistani President Gen Pervez Musharraf is scheduled to meet US President George W Bush at Camp David on June 24.
