Chandigarh, June 10: BSP today demanded dismissal of the Capt Amarinder Singh led Congress government in Punjab for its alleged failure to protect the life and property of Dalits in the aftermath of the clash between Dalits and Jat Sikhs in
Jalandhar last week.
"The Amarinder Singh government should be dismissed forthwith and the culprits of Talhan village incident and also those responsible for attacks on Dalits in other parts of Jalandhar must be brought to the books," BSP's Punjab president Avtar Singh Karimpuri said.
Addressing a party rally here to protest the killing of a Dalit youth Vijay Kumar Kala in the alleged police firing in Jalandhar and various incidents of clashes between the two communities, Karimpuri said that the CBI must inquire the entire episode, guilty police officials allegedly involved in the firing incident must be suspended and arrested and compensation of Rs 10 lakh be given to Kala's family and the injured be compensated with Rs two lakh each.
Both Karimpuri and BSP central coordinator Narinder Kashyap, who also addressed the rally charged the state government for engineering the attacks on Dalits for creating a "wedge between the two communities".
A report from Moga said that Dalits held demonstration at various places to protest the alleged failure of the state government to check the violence following Talhan incident.
After the rally, the BSP workers led by Kashyap and Karimpuri marched in a procession to submit a memorandum to Punjab Governor Justice (retd) O P Verma.
