Jamshedpur, Aug 09: The six-year old girl, who was abducted from Patna, was rescued from West Singhbhum district of Jharkhand this morning, police said.
Shwetangi was recovered when the police raided a criminal`s house at Gitilipi near Sonua in Jharkhand, Superintendent of Police Pravin Kumar said.
The raid was jointly conducted by Patna and West Singhbhum police personnel, Kumar said.
While the criminal was arrested, his associate managed to flee. A search is on to trace him, the SP said.
Shwetangi was abducted from Patna yesterday as she waited outside her residence for a rickshaw to take her to school, triggering violence in the city.
The girl, a second class student, was waiting for the rickshaw when two motorcycle-borne youth pushed her father away and abducted the girl at gunpoint.
Angry over the kidnapping, people burnt tyres at different places on bailey road and broke windscreens of about half-a dozen vehicles to protest the abduction.
It is the second kidnapping in the city within a fortnight after the abduction of Siddhant Parmar, eight-year-old son of a SBI bank officer and nephew of sugarcane minister Raghvendra Pratap Singh.
Siddhant, who still remains traceless, was also on his way to school when he was kidnapped on July 24.
Kidnapping of Siddhant and a Punjab National Bank manager R D Sharma from Rohtas on July 25 had also triggered widespread protest.
