Bhopal, Sept 17: Setting a record in ten years, Madhya Pradesh state civil supplies corporation lifted and supplied 208 lakh quintal foodgrains under public distribution
system and other schemes during 2002-03, showing an increase of 55 lakh quintal from previous year.
The feat was possible primarily because of strengthened transportation and storage arrangements made by the state government under its comprehensive policy for grain banks.
This lifting and supply of foodgrains by the corporation was 125 lakh quintal in 2000-01 which rose to 153 lakh quintal in 2001-02, official sources said today. The corporation executed agreements with transporters to take foodgrain to the last points within a time limit. In order to ensure safe storage and smooth transportation, the corporation laid down its own storage policy.
The corporation made arrangements for adequate funds at district level for setting up grain banks so that supplies of the commodities from the Food Corporation of India were not disrupted due to lack of funds. Bureau Report
