Pakistan said on Thursday it did not see its nuclear rival India preparing for war right now but would use its full force against any misadventure by New Delhi.
A foreign ministry spokesman said Pakistan hoped the situation would not run out of hand despite a rise in tension between the two neighbours after last week's attack on India's Parliament building, in which 14 people died including the five assailants.
"Pakistan is exercising maximum restraint. Pakistan wants a resolution of these problems through peaceful means, through negotiations," spokesman Aziz Ahmed Khan told reporters.
Asked if India was preparing for war after blaming two Pakistan-based militant groups for the attack, Khan said, "At the moment not, we hope not."
Pakistan wanted all disputes with India to be, "Resolved peacefully on the basis of justice and fairplay", he said.
"However, any misadventure on our eastern border (with India) or the LOC (Line of Control) in Kashmir would be met with full force.
"We hope the situation would not be allowed to get out of hand."
