London, Mar 11: Liezl Els, wife of one of the most travelled golfers in the game, believes she and her husband get by better than most couples in spending quality family time. For many professionals, life on the road can be a lonely affair but Liezl and world number three Ernie Els ensure they spend as much time as possible with their two children, four-year-old Samantha and one-year-old Ben.

"I think our kids see more of Ernie than normal families get to see of their fathers," Liezl told Reuters in an interview during last week's Dubai Desert Classic.

"We have a very privileged life and, as a family, we try to travel as much as we can. Whenever there's a half-term or a holiday, we're on the road with them."

Globe-trotting Ernie Els, a three-times major winner, is one of few players to feature regularly on both the PGA and European Tours.
The South African covers more miles in his private jet than any of his main rivals, despite having recently trimmed his playing schedule, and Liezl has had to become highly adept at planning ahead.

Asked how many tournaments she attends during an average season, Liezl replied: "We probably miss about eight (of around 28) in a year, which is not that much.

"The kids miss a little bit more but I try to join Ernie for say three days of a tournament, so that he has some family support and to ensure that we're never apart for too long." Bureau Report
