Kozhikode, Aug 14: Calling upon the youth to launch concerted drive against communalism, Kerala Youth Congress today said it would start year-long awareness programmes throughout the state beginning with a "communal harmony meet" here on today.
Addressing a press conference, KYC President K P Anil Kumar said Youth Congress all-India president Ranjeet Singh Surjewala would inaugurate the meet, where hundreds of Youth Congress activists would take a CF pledge against communalism after shedding a drop of blood to symbolise their readiness to sacrifice their lives for maintaining communal harmony.

KPCC president K Muraleedharan, MP, UDF convenor Oomen Chandy, AICC secretary Ramesh Chennithala, state ministers besides KYC office-bearers would participate in the meet, he said.

The year-long awareness programmes would include district and block-level and door-to-door campaign by Youth Congress volunteers, Kumar said, adding seminars and symposiums would also be held at various levels to educate the youth.
To a query on Marad, he said Youth Congress was of the firm view that rehabilitation should be carried out in the affected area but without using force as that would only further aggravate the situation.

Accusing the BJP of stalling the process of rehabilitation by remaining adamant on its demand for a CBI probe into the May 2 violent incident that claimed nine lives, Kumar said "a judicial enquiry (as ordered by the state government) should suffice to unravel the truth".
