Australia would consider further military support to the U.S. if it extended its campaign against terrorism into Iraq, Foreign Minister Alexander Downer said Thursday. Downer said the U.S. hadn't raised the issue with Australia, but such a request would be considered in the context of the overall fight against terrorism.
"If such a situation were to arise we would look at it, it would depend on the circumstances," he said.

Downer said he didn't want to over-interpret recent remarks by U.S. President George W. Bush about Iraq, but added there was an outstanding problem to be resolved with the country.
Monday, Bush warned Iraq of consequences if it produced weapons of mass destruction. Bureau Report
