Diphu (Assam), Nov 08: The situation in Assam's Karbi
Anglong district, where eight Karbi youths have been allegedly
kidnapped by Kuki Revolutionary Army (KRA) and several houses
burnt, was still tense but under control, police sources said.
Combing operations in four remote villages of Singhasan hills area were continuing with senior police officials camping in the area.
DIG Mukesh Agarwalla today reviewed the law and order situation in the area. The district administration was trying to normalise the situation by sending back the villagers who had taken shelter in relief camps to their homes under heavy security, the sources said.
Four villages in the inaccessible Singhasan Hills were attacked by the Kuki militants on November two, 28 villagers were kidnapped by them while 20 were later released but eight are still missing.
The incident is a sequel to a threat issued by KRA in a release on October 20 that UPDS militants had allegedly kidnapped several Kukis and if they were not released by October 30, they will launch 'Operation Volcano'.
Meanwhile, the UPDS in a release has criticised the district administration for not taking action against Kuki militants and warned the KRA not to harass innocent villagers.
