Mumbai, July 23: Television viewers are heading for
an entertainment blackout as cable operators in the country's
entertainment capital and adjoining areas would go on 24-hour
strike from tonight to protest the ‘delay’ in introduction of
legislation for the Conditional Access System (CAS).
The decision to go on strike was taken at a meeting of
Major System Operators (MSO) Incable, Hathway and Wincable and
some small time operators here, a spokesperson for Incable
told a news agency..
The agitational programme would also affect the television viewers in adjoining areas like thane district, she said.
The cable and satellite channels were blacked out during prime time last night as a token protest and had good response from the small-time operators as well, she claimed.
The 24-hour suspension of operation from tonight would intensify the pressure and virtually deprive lakhs of cable subscribers in the city and adjoining areas from their usual dose of entertainment.
