Security in Jammu has been beefed up following Thursday’s blast in Jammu and in view of intelligence reports that militant outfits Lashker-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammad may try to disrupt Republic Day celebrations. Their aim is to trigger explosions and launch suicide attacks in Jammu on the eve of R-Day celebrations, highly placed official sources said. A red alert has been sounded in Jammu and Kashmir and police officials have been asked to maintain round-the-clock vigil, they said. Following reports of the presence of suicide squads, raids had been carried out at several places in the walled city and passengers leaving for the national capital were being checked, they said adding that 27 suspects have been taken into custody. A four-tier security has been put in place in VVIP areas including Chief Minister's residence and Raj Bhawan while three-tier security is in place at the venue of the R-Day function in Jammu, they said. “We don't want to take any chances as far as security needs are concerned,” the sources said.
All exit and entry routes have been sealed. Checking vehicles, night patrolling and raids have been intensified and several observation posts have been set up in sensitive areas, they added. Bureau Report
