Army and para-military forces were deployed on Saturday at vulnerable places here and an Army helicopter kept aerial vigil as tension mounted following Friday's CRPF firing and police action in which a youth was killed and over 100 injured, official sources said. Security measures were tightened as Manipur governor Ved Marwah received reports of thousands of youths planning to take out a procession defying indefinite curfew clamped in the Imphal municipal area.
Army and para-military forces also staged a flag march at important places in Imphal and surrounding areas as the anti-truce stir intensified across Manipur with thousands of people taking out rallies and launching sit-in protests and dharnas.
Youths and students wanted to carry the body of Laitonjam Rajkumar Singh (32) from the morgue of regional institute of medical science hospital to Kekrupat area on the banks of River Imphal for cremation, the sources said.
