Aizawl, Aug 29: With election to the 40-member Mizoram Assembly due in three months, the Mizoram People's Conference and Zoram National Party have entered into a pre-poll alliance. A joint declaration, issued by both the parties here last evening, said they had agreed to form an alliance for the coming state assembly polls to form a government ''truly for the people''.
It, however, said that the modalities were left open for further discussion between the two parties. MPC party sources said that the two parties had generally agreed that in the event of the alliance forming the government, the Chief Minister would be elected from the party which has more legislators elected.
''We do not think there will be much of a problem in working out the modalities including distribution of constituencies between the two parties,'' the sources said. MPC now has 12 legislators in the current state assembly while the ZNP, breakaway group of the ruling Mizo National Front, does not have a single MLA. Bureau Report
