New Delhi, June 30: Steel production in the country rose by 8.25 per cent to 55.25 lakh tonnes during April-May 2003 as against 51.04 lakh tonnes during the corresponding period last year. Production of pig iron registered a rise of 25.37 per cent at 9.24 lakh tonnes as compared to 7.37 lakh tonnes in the corresponding period last year, an official release said here.
The exports of steel in the period is estimated at 2.6 lakh tonnes, an increase of 65 per cent as compared to exports during April and May 2002.
