Washington, Nov 10: UN Secretary General Kofi Annan was "horrified" by a new terrorist attack in Saudi Arabia that claimed the lives of at least 17 people in Riyadh, a senior UN official said.
"The Secretary General is horrified by last night's attack against a residential compound in Riyad, Saudi Arabia," UN spokesman Fred Eckhard said yesterday. "He condemns this terrorist act in the strongest possible terms."
Annan conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the Saudi government and the families of the victims, Eckhard said.
Annan is "confident that the authorities of the kingdom of Saudi Arabia will bring to justice the perpetrators of this cowardly attack," Eckhard said.
17 people, including five children, were killed in a midnight suicide bombing that ripped through a residential compound west of Riyadh, according to the Saudi interior ministry.
